How to use the Join Code - Become Partners with Parents
At Reading.com, we know that your goal is to see your students flourish as confident readers. The good news? You don't have to do it alone! You can now seamlessly share your Reading.com purchase with your students' parents, making it easy for your students to access their reading lessons both in and outside the classroom. By partnering with parents, you create a collaborative learning environment that extends the magic of reading from school to home.
With our latest Teacher Web Portal updates, inviting parents to join their child’s reading journey is easier—and more flexible—than ever. You now have two simple ways to invite families:
- Use a Class Join Code (parents choose their child from a dropdown)
- Use an Individual Student Join Code (a personalized invite for each student)
Let’s walk through both!
Option 1: Share the Class Join Code
This option is perfect if you want to invite all families at once.
Step-by-Step:
- Log in to your Reading.com Teacher Portal HERE.
- Click “Classes & Students” from the left-hand menu on your dashboard.
- Click the class you want to share with to open it.
- Find the "Invite Parents" at the top of the class list on the right-hand side.
- Choose how to share:
- Click “Copy Link” to send the join code digitally.
- Or click “Download PDF” to print personalized letters—one for each student in your class. A great option to use at the start of the school year!
What Parents Will See:
- Parents will use the link or QR code from the take-home letter to join.
When using the link, parents will select their child’s name from a drop-down menu.
- Once they select the correct name, they’ll create an account (or log into an existing one) and download the Reading.com app.
- When using the QR code from the personalized take-home letter, they will download the Reading.com app and follow the steps on the letter to use their unique join code.
Note for Parents: If you've already created a Reading.com account and your child has a profile, just log in, tap your child’s profile, and enter the join code by selecting “Enter Join Code.”
How to Know Who's Joined:
Once a parent joins, their email address will appear next to the student’s name in your class list and within the student's profile.
Option 2: Share an Individual Student Join Code
This is ideal for one-off invites or personalized sharing.
Step-by-Step:
- From your class list, find the student you want to invite a parent for.
- Click on the student’s name to open their profile.
- Click “Invite Parents.”
- Choose how to share:
- Copy the unique join link to send directly to the parent.
- Or download a printable take-home letter that includes setup instructions.
Pro-Tip: Keep a few printed invites handy for parent-teacher meetings or one-on-one conversations. These personalized letters make it easy to hand out or send home with students. They contain the student’s name, join code, and setup instructions for their parent.
Whether you're sending a class-wide invite or reaching out to individual families, Reading.com gives you the tools to bring parents into the learning experience with ease. By working together, you can help your students build strong reading habits both at school and at home.
Thanks for everything you do. We’re here to support you—and so are your students’ families!
